Akufo-Addo must limit the number of appointments he makes – Lecturer
Political Science Lecturer with the Methodist University College, Dr. Osei Bonsu-Wusu has attacked the list of the total number of employees at the Jubilee House calling for a seal in future administrations
“The whole thing is too open and the President can do whatever he wants to do with his appointment. …we should be given some sealed number”, he suggested
“We need to look at our Constitution again so that any President who come into power will have some limited number of political appointees”.
President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has presented to Parliament, a list of the total number of employees at the Presidency.
The release of the list is in compliance with Section 11 of the Presidential Office Act, 1993 (Act 463), which requires the President to submit annually to Parliament, a report on the staffing position of the Office of the President.
The breakdown was given as nine ministers of state, 27 presidential staffers, 256 other/junior appointees and 706 employees of public/civil service staff
According to Dr. Osei Bonsu-Wusu, Ghana currently need less than twenty ministries to run affairs of the country so therefore the 988 staff working under the presidency is needless.
“I see it as job for the boys”, the lecturer said in an interview monitored by MyNewsgh.com on Accra-based Starr FM and hosted by Atiewin Mbillah-Lawson.
