Akufo- Addo masks AfDB Plaque to Mahama school at Antieku
President Akufo-Addo has provoked yet another backlash after he allegedly plagiarized another infrastructural project which was completed by his predecessor, as his personal brainchild.
Last Thursday, the President’s tour of the Greater Accra Region took him to the Anyaa Sowutuom Constituency where he among other things, commissioned the Anyaa Basic school located at Antie Aku-Kokompe.
But in commissioning the school block, the President had refused to give credit to his predecessor and rather passed off the project as his personal imprint. What is causing even more disquiet is that he had had a plaque showing that the project was built in 2016 and funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB), covered with paper.
The development has since rattled the Anyaa-Sowutuom Constituency branch of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) which says it has been vindicated on its foretell that Akufo-Addo would plagiarize Mahama projects in the constituency.
“President Akufo-Addo is so predictable… exactly what we warned he would do is what he did. Isn’t it shameful that our leader has to use these monkey tricks to glean credit for himself? Where on earth does any President blindfold plaques just so he can claim he built a school that he did not build?” Mr Ralph Apetorgbor, a Deputy Communications Officer at Anyaa Sowutuom NDC said in an interview with What’sUp News.
Mr. Apetorgbor had been one of the Communications Officer who had warned that if President Akufo-Addo plagiarized any Mahama projects in Anyaa Sowutuom on his Greater Accra tour he would be named and shamed.
A vigilant Apetorgbor had woken up early in the morning on the day of the President’s visit to take pictures of all the projects that the President had been scheduled to commission.
What’sUp News has heard from sources close to the Municipal Chief Executive, Dr Emmanuel Lamptey that a few hours before President Akufo-Addo would cut a ribbon to officially commission the school block, Director of Protocol at the Presidency, Mr Hassan Ahmed, had instructed authorities of the assembly to cover the plaque on the building with paper.
Infact our source indicates that the presidency didn’t understand why Nana Akufo Addo will commission a project and on the plaque nothing will show he did in order to claim credit for the project.
Our source reliably indicates that Ghanaians should not be surprise if within the next few days a new plaque is fixed on the building with inscription of the president’s name.
Pictures of the alleged concealment show that the plaque bearing the name of the AfDB as bankroller of the school covered in paper and sol tape.
What’sUp News has since picked up that the contract for the three-storey ten unit classroom block was awarded to Messrs Peddy Ventures as part of the Awoshie-Pokuase Road and Urban Development project. It was funded by the AfDB and completed in 2016 under President John Mahama.
