Akufo-Addo is running the proper ‘family and friends’ government – Murtala
Former Deputy Minister of Trades and Industry Hon. Murtala Ibrahim Mohammed has maintained that President Akufo-Addo is running the proper “family and friends government” contrary to what he promised the electorate in the build-up to the last general elections.
“He is appointing his girlfriends. …he is appointing his family members even his daughter”, the former National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmaker stated.
According to the former Member of Parliament for Nanton Constituency, President John Mahama while in office never gave any political appointment directly or indirectly to his family member or close relations but was accused by the then opposition of practicing nepotism
“I mean it is shameful and former President Mahama never appointed family members. …the only family member who had the opportunity to serve in his government is Joyce Bawa”.
In an exclusive interview with MyNewsGH.com’s Kwabena Danso-Dapaah on sidelines of the NDC Unity Walk held in the Ashanti Regional capital Kumasi last weekend, the former lawmaker took a swipe at Professor Stephen Adei, former Rector of Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) for keeping quiet over the matter yet was loud during the Mahama administration
“You have the likes of Professor Adei and the NPP who blamed and chastised [former] President Mahama for appointing family and friends when they have no backings evidence”.
“Now juxtapose the appointment of President Mahama and the appointments we have today and you come to your own conclusions”, the former Minister challenged.
“As a matter of fact, Samira, the wife to the Vice-president, the father has been appointed as an Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, the brother has been appointed as a Deputy to NADMO”, Hon. Murtala Mohammed pointed it out.
