The Ansuaa Ababio Paediatric Centre(AAPC) of the Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital has undertook a six-hour long procession through some principal streets of Dormaa-Ahenkro to raise awareness on the need to mobilise funds in purchase of an emergency ambulance for sick children.

An amount of Ghc20billion is been raised for the purchase of a new kids ambulance.

The procession which started at the Hospital took them through some popular streets and communities within the Dormaa Central Municipality namely KDS, OYB, BACCSOD, Daily Market, Presbyterian Park, GN Bank, and the Tuesday Market.

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency(GNA) in Dormaa Ahenkro, Madam Miriam Lomokie, Member of Organising Committee and Laboratory Technician, Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital, said the motive behind the procession was to reach ordinary people on the streets for financial support towards the purchase of the ambulance.

She noted that sick kids who are often conveyed from distant locations or remote communities needed to be stabilised first from their homes before they reach the hospital.

“Unfortunately when they are being transferred to the hospitals there are no nurses, no ambulance and most of their parents are not aware how to stabilise or offer first aid.

“The lack of an ambulance has increased mortality rate and we want to check it, ” she observed.

The Committee Member added that recently three babies died when they had to be conveyed in a taxi from Aboabo in the Municipality as well as Cote d’Ivoire.

Madam Lomokie said a number of gospel musical concert has been lined up to raise funds in aid of a kids ambulance in Dormaa, Kumasi and Accra.

He appealed to individuals, philanthropists and organisations to donate towards the course at the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) on the Account Number 7041010002535 Dormaa-Ahenkro Branch, Mobile Money Transfer 0245429365.
