Ladies and gentlemen of the Press, we welcome you to this important presser of the New Vision Party (NVP). The New Vision Party is a registered political party in Ghana under the laws of the Republic. As a political party interested in the progress of our dear nation, we have invited you here with a singular mission, which is our status going into the 2020 general election.
The national executive committee in a just ended national executive congress, have resolved to throw our weight behind the presidential candidate of the NDC, HE JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA and her running mate PROF. NAANA JANE OPOKU AGYEMAN going into the 2020 general election. We arrived at this decision after extensive consultation with members of our party. This decision has been arrived at because the people’s manifesto of the NDC seems to coincide with a lot of the programs and policies we wanted to pursue as a party going into the 2020 general elections for the first time. We are therefore calling on all our rank and file to mount spirited campaign for the flag bearer of the NDC, HE JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA and all the parliamentary candidates of the NDC across the country.
This year’s election happens to be a crucial one because for the first time in our history we have a sitting president seeking to renew his mandate and a former President John Dramani Mahama who has equally served a first term and looking forward to be re-elected. The election is not about just promises but what each of the major opponents was able to deliver during his term of stewardship. We have a choice to make between the man who delivered so much for his people and the man who made many lofty promises to deceive the unsuspecting public into office.
Ladies and gentlemen of the press, you would recall that in the run-up to the 2016 elections, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo made a plethora of lofty and mouthwatering promises that lured the Ghanaian electorate into voting for him.
However, since assuming office in 2017, he has flattered to deceive and failed to fulfill majority of the campaign promises he made to Ghanaians on the basis of which he was elected into office. Indeed, today, majority of Ghanaians have come to the painful realization, that most of the utopian promises of then candidate Akufo-Addo were never intended to be kept. Most of us who believed him and voted for him have had a very bitter experience of his poor and bad leadership. The four years of president Akuffo Addo has been full of broken promises, lies and deceit to hoodwink Ghanaians.
Ladies and gentlemen of the press, quality Health care continues to be a major challenge for our citizenry and as such the people of Ghana will welcome any intervention that will expand healthcare for our people. You will recall that in page 119 of the NPP 2016 manifesto, they promised One district, one hospital: “upgrade all existing district hospitals where they exist and where they don’t, establish a new one. NPP’s aim is for each district to have at least one hospital”. We also recall during one of the presidential address to the nation during the peak of the covid 19 fight the president promised to build 88 new district hospitals before the end of 2020, ladies and gentlemen a failed promise of President Akuffo Addo and his NPP government. As we speak the NPP cannot boast of one district hospital started and completed under President Akuffo Addo despite the unprecedented borrowing.  The NPP in page 149 of its 2016 manifesto also promised to build two (2) new Police hospitals in Sunyani and Bolgatanga. This has also turn out to be scam.
Under erstwhile Mahama administration we saw major efforts to help expand our healthcare facilities, from over a thousand CHIPS compounds, polyclinics, district hospitals, regional hospitals and a teaching hospital like the University of Ghana medical center. This is a government we can trust, a government that promises less but delivers so much, the reason we in the NVP have unanimously agreed to endorse John Dramani Mahama.
Ladies and gentlemen in 2016 President Akuffo on page 135 of the NPP’s manifesto promised to ‘fight corruption head-on through preventive, detective, corrective, and punitive action’. Ladies and gentlemen this promise has turn out to be the biggest scam of the 21st century. Today President Akuffo Addo is the biggest promoter of corruption and will go down in history as the most corrupt President this country has ever seen since independence. The fight against corruption under President Akuffo Addo is a mirage and just paying leap service to deceive the unsuspecting public. The recent resignation of the citizen Vigilante, Mr. Martin who left the position for fear of his life for exposing corruption in the Agyapa royalty’s agreement, leaves much to be desired. The way and manner in which the auditor general Mr. Domelevo was forced to proceed on leave for also exposing corruption against the senior minister is testament to the fact that President Akuffo Addo the ‘mother serpent of all corruption’ has no interest in fighting corruption. Ladies and gentlemen yet another broken promise of President Akuffo Addo and the NPP the reason Ghanaians must kick him out and vote massively for HE JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA the man who jailed his own appointee in the GYEEDA scandal and made money refunded back to the state in the BUS BRANDING saga.
On page 61 of the NPP 2016 manifesto, the NPP promised One million dollars, per constituency every year. Today, that promise has turned out to be one of the “419” promises of President Akufo-Addo and his NPP government. This promise of President Akufo-Addo then candidate, was simply that, he was going to give every constituency an amount of $1 million dollars every year for developmental projects if elected as President.
Many were those who believed this promise and voted for President Akufo-Addo in the 2016 general elections in the hope that their constituencies will benefit from at least US$4 million dollars or projects equivalent to that amount under the government of Akufo-Addo. Yet, nearly four (4) years after assuming power, President Akufo Addo has very little to show for this key flagship promise in the 275 constituencies of Ghana despite his unprecedented borrowing. As we speak the government can only boast of ambulances and public toilets in some constituency, 4 million dollars for just toilet and an ambulance? Never in the history of this country, have Ghanaians witnessed this level of dishonesty on the part of any government. We think the people of Ghana deserves better, they deserve a leadership they can trust, and we strongly believe that leader is HE JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA.
One of the major issues the 2016 elections were fought on was on the cedi depreciation to the dollar. You remember how Dr. Bawumiah used to organize what he calls the cedi lectures, today in government we have seen the cedi doing worse. The NPP made a specific promise to “Stabilize the currency exchange rate for the long term through prudent and disciplined macroeconomic management, an increase in domestic production and an increase in exports’ this was in Page 16 of the 2016 manifesto. At 3.85cedis to a dollar the NPP accused former president Mahama of incompetence in 2016 today a dollar is 5.9 under this administration. How should we describe the NANA Addo led administration then? It’s a shame that a government that promised so much, has very little to show. Ladies and gentlemen like the former president said we don’t manage the economy with slangs.
Ladies and gentlemen one of the major campaigns against former President Mahama by the NPP was borrowing. Am sure you remember, in the run-up to the 2016 general elections, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), led by Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia and then Candidate Akufo Addo, criticized the NDC government for what they described as excessive borrowing by the Mahama administration.
The NPP then in opposition, described Ghana’s debt position at the time, as unsustainable. The NPP promised at page 13 of their 2016 manifesto, to reduce government borrowing and improve our debt sustainability position when elected. Note that, the promise was not to reduce the rate of borrowing as the NPP is deceitfully claiming today, but rather, to reduce government borrowing. And it was on the basis of this and many other lofty promises, that Ghanaians voted for President Akufo Addo and the NPP into office. At the time the NPP made this promise in the year 2016, our public debt stood at GHS120 billion and our debt to GDP ratio at 55.6% (rebased economic data). Today our debt has ballooned from GH120 billion to GHS278.8 billion. Also, our debt to GDP ratio which stood at 55.6% as at December 2016, has increased to 71.3% and projected by the IMF to hit 76.7% by the end of December this year.
Ladies and gentlemen with this reckless and excessive borrowing by this incompetent sakawa government there is virtually nothing to show for it. As stated earlier this government does not have single hospital, no new secondary school, no new university, no major roads and not a single major market in any part of the country. Its therefore not surprising that the government keeps grabbing projects of the erstwhile Mahama administration and some private projects as theirs. It’s a shame that a government that has borrowed this much has filled its delivery tracker with ghost projects which does not exist in many instances when held to strict prove.
Ladies and gentlemen with just about 56billion loans, we all saw the massive infrastructure projects undertaken by the Mahama administration, schools, hospitals, major roads, Tema Port expansion, Terminal 3 at the Kotoka international airport, a new university, the university of Ghana medical School, Teshie Nungua desalination plant, kpone water expansion project, Ameri, Karpower just to mention a few.
Distinguished friends, talk they say is cheap. You can lie your way into power, but you cannot sustain yourself in office with lies. President Akufo-Addo has fallen on the dagger of his own promises, promises which were calculated solely for votes but never intended to be kept. But the day of accountability is not far and we have no doubt in our minds that having fallen victim to his grand deceptions and fraud, Ghanaians will kick the deceitful President Akufo-Addo and his 125 ministers out of office come December 7th.
Come December 7th we have a critical choice to make to vote for the humble, sincere and visionary John Dramani Mahama to rescue this country or to vote this inept, dishonest and corrupt Akufo-Addo government. Ladies and gentlemen of the media we are clear in our minds who to vote for, we will vote for HE JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA to deliver us from the clutches of this corrupt and incompetent Akuffo Addo led government to restore our country back to the path of honesty, development and progress.
Ladies and gentlemen president Akuffo Addo promised to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa in his first 18months. Today Accra is ranked among the dirtiest cities in Africa. It seems the presidents promise again has fallen on rocks. Remember president Akuffo Addo created a whole ministry of sanitation with ministers and chief directors all drawing salaries for no work done. Ladies and gentlemen president Akuffo Addo is not only the mother serpent of all corruption but also very dishonest and deceitful, and its our joint social responsibility to ensure this family and friends talkative government is voted out come December 7th, 2020.
We in the New Vision Party are confident of a convincing win for HE JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA and the NDC. We are therefore by this press conference calling on all our rank and file and foot soldiers to campaign massively for JOHN MAHAMA and the NDC for victory 2020. We need to work hard to put Ghana back on the path of progress and development where the state will create opportunities for every Ghanaian not just for a selected few.
Ladies and gentlemen the victory of JM is coming again, the second coming of the MESSIAH, HE JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA is eminent and all Ghanaians must share in this historic come back, by voting massively for JOHN MAHAMA and the NDC in the upcoming December election to rescue Ghana from the shackles of this nepotistic, incompetent, corrupt, family and friends government.
Long live GHANA
Long live HE JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA
Long live the New Vision Party

Thank you for your attention
