20 Hospitals Shortlisted Gor For Dialysis Treatment – NHIS

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s recent announcement that free dialysis treatment for kidney patients under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) would commence on December 1, 2024. has begun with the selection of 20 hospitals to treat Dialysis in the country few days to the general elections.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized the government’s commitment to easing the financial burden on kidney patients and their families, noting that the new policy build on a successful pilot programme launched earlier this year.

The pilot targeted patients aged over 60 and under 18, providing critical support to vulnerable groups.

To address, Dr. Dacosta Aboagye, CEO of the NHIA made known it to news men during interaction with various CEOs of hospitals at the NHIS headquarters in Accra the readiness of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) and assured the public of its preparedness.

The NHIA boss said additional dialysis machines are being distributed to the selected facilities to meet anticipated demand.

Dr. Dacosta Aboagye confirmed that funding from the World Bank has been secured to support the rollout.

The selected facilities include major healthcare providers such as Hart Adventist Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Holy Family Hospital in Berekum, Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, Eastern Regional Hospital, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, 37 Military Hospital, and Newtown Islamic Hospital Ltd.

Other hospitals on the list are Ghana Police Hospital, Trust Hospital Premium Centre, Ridge Regional Hospital, International Maritime Hospital, Tamale Teaching Hospital, Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, Upper West Regional Hospital, Ho Teaching Hospital, Volta Regional Hospital in Hohoe, Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, and Takoradi Hospital.
