In a significant display of inter-agency cooperation, the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has officially handed over 17 seized gold bars worth $1.7 million to the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) at a brief ceremony held at the Ministry of the Interior in Accra.
The gold, intercepted by officers of NACOC’s Upper East Command, was confiscated at the Paga Border Post from two Burkinabe nationals attempting to smuggle it out of the country. The suspects have since been charged with offences relating to the illegal transportation and dealing in gold.

Interior Minister, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, who supervised the handover, reaffirmed the Ministry’s unwavering commitment to supporting GoldBod in safeguarding and managing the country’s precious mineral resources.
GoldBod’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, commended NACOC for the successful seizure and emphasized the need for continued collaboration among Ghana’s security and regulatory institutions in the fight against gold smuggling.
Also present at the ceremony were the Chief Director of the Ministry, Mrs. Doreen Annan, NACOC’s Director-General, Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey and other senior officials from both institutions.
