As VC’s Spokesperson exposes his ignorance

In a desperate attempt to associate Hon. Alexander Afenyo Markin, Member of Parliament for Effutu and Board Chairman of the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL), with corruption, in what can best be described as ‘evil’ and malicious attack, Alhassan Salifu Bawa, an arch enemy of the former, has presented a petition to the Office of the Special Prosecutor and has thereafter leaked it to the media.

Due diligence conducted by this portal and further checks at the Public Procurement Authority (PPA) and the Materials Department of the Ghana Water Company Limited have revealed that, Alhassan Salifu Bawa, who is said to be the Spokesperson of Prof. Anthony Afful-Broni, embattled Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba, ignorantly rushed to the Special Prosecutor without checking the date the said contract was signed.

This portal can say on authority after investigations that, the contract in question was awarded by PPA in 2016 during the tenure of Mr. Lokko, who was the Managing Director at the time, long before the assumption of office of the New Patriotic Party administration.

“It will therefore take an unintelligent person to call for investigations against the Board Chair of the Company, Hon. Afenyo Markin, who was only appointed Board Chairman in the year 2017,” a highly-placed source at the Ghana Water Company Limited told this portal.

“This is not only ignorance but evil and smear campaign,” the source added, indicating that, “the facts are completely false and I am of the view that, the Special Prosecutor will dismiss the petition with the contempt that it deserves.”

“People should begin to take the Office of the Special Prosecutor serious and not just throw anything at all at the office,” the GWCL source fumed.

The source said, “from all indications it is evident that, Alhassan Salifu Bawa is sending the Special Prosecutor to embark on a deep fishing expedition.”

He said, “clearly, any objective person will not hesitate in concluding that, Afful-Broni, having been hauled before the Special Prosecutor on a specific corruption-related offence by the acting Finance Officer of UEW, such a frivolous petition by Alhassan Bawa, was intended to look for a partner in corruption and confuse the public.”

Speaking to Mr. Stephen Danpari, Chief Manager of the Materials Department, he indicated that, all the allegations contained in the two petitions were false and unfortunate.
