There has been a return of garbage heaps within the Accra Metropolis despite efforts by government to make Accra, the cleanest city in West Africa.

Some areas in the city have become engulfed with filth, flies and pungent smell. At the Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly premises, the place is inundated with plastic waste, decayed food crops and choked gutters.

The worst part of it is that a food vendor sells by the filth, a situation which can easily lay the foundation for cholera outbreak. It is very sad that a whole Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly with its Chief Executive sit unconcern about this sad development.

Speaking to the Ghanaian Democrat in an interview on a condition of anonymity at Kaokudi, one lady lamented how the Municipal Assembly has sat unconcern over the heap garbage and stench which emanates from it.

She also expressed worry at how government and NADMO officials use that same route to their offices and they are also unconcern, not even the cries of the Assembly staff could be taken into consideration.

“Some months ago, the vice President Alhaji Bawumia was visiting the newly constructed mosque using the same route, the Assembly left the bola tank filled scattered all over without respecting to keep the place clean for the man’s visit”, she narrated.

She further stated that the place has become a breeding ground for mice and flies adding that they “we been living with the situation for months”.

She noted that no effort had been made by the Ayawaso East Municipal Assembly to address the problem permanently; no meaningful result had been achieved.
