Muslims in the Okaikoi South Constituency have over the weekend organized a cleanup exercise in some parts of the township.

The exercise which was in collaboration with the Assemblyman for Avenor Electoral area, Mr. Alfred Adjei formed part of the response to a clarion call by the Minister of Zongo and Inner City Development, Hon. Alhaji Siddiq Boniface Abubakar that the people of Zongo and Inner cities must live in clean environment.

Few months ago, the Minister was invited as a guest speaker at a function organized by the GaDangme Muslim Council where he made a passionate appeal to the people of Zongo to take up an initiative towards cleaning the environment.

To respond to his call, the Okaikoi South branch of GaDangme Muslim Council (GMC) has taken queue to organize its maiden clean-up exercise within their catchment areas.

In an interview shortly with GD, the leader of the Muslim group Mallam Yahaya Nii Akrashie reiterated their commitment to continue with the exercise.

He said their outfit would ensure that the people of Avenor and other places adhere to the environmental laws and adopt good attitude toward the environment.

The Assemblyman of the area, Alfred Adjei indicated that the exercise would cover other areas.

To him, the exercise was in line with national enforcement day that replaced the national sanitation day introduced by the erstwhile NDC government.

He urged residence to keep their environment clean as Christmas is approaching adding that “cleanliness is next to Godliness”
