The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer aspirant Mr. Augustus Goosie Tanoh has called on the election committee and the National executive of the party to ensure a level playing field for all the aspirants in the upcoming Flagbearer elections.

Speaking to the media shortly after Mr. Eric William, a branch chairman of the NDC and a member of Organizing for Ghana (OfG) was very optimistic of winning the context on free, fair and transparent grounds.

The campaign team flanked by some leading members of the OfG led a delegation to pick the forms on behalf of Goosie at the party’s head office at Adabraka in Accra. They paid the required Ghc20,000 in cash.

An enthusiastic William told journalists after the forms were presented to him that they are highly optimistic that Goosie Tanoh will emerge winner at the party’s upcoming presidential primaries scheduled for January 19, 2019.

“See, the game has really started, and it tells you that we are really in the race and we are serious about it, and we believe that on the day of the election, things are going to favor us, and we are asking all of you to support us,” he stated.

There were other concerns from some members of the OfG team about the need to ensure that the process leading to the election is free and fair. They expressed worry that some elected national and regional party officers have already declared support for a particular candidate in the race against the guidelines and constitution of the party, an act they deemed to be bias and unfair.

Peter Otukonor, the available national officer and a deputy General Secretary of the party, took time to take the delegation through the forms and how they are expected to fill and submit them by the stipulated deadline. He assured them of an unbiased electoral process to ensure that the best candidate emerges as winner to lead the NDC into “Election 2020.

He explained that there are no specific laws preventing elected party officials at the branch and constituency levels from openly declaring support for any of the candidates, however, it would not be right for a national officer to be seen doing same. He therefore urged them to report any such act to the appropriate authorities for action.

At the close of nominations on Saturday, December 8, those who have so far picked nomination forms include former President John Dramani Mahama, Stephen Atubiga, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin, Sylvester Adina Mensah, Joshua Alabi,Ekwow Spio-Garbrah and Goosie Tanoh.
