Melcom Ghana, a shopping mall giant has created another opportunity for   Ghanaian artists to have their work flourish than they are ‘miserably’ doing currently in the country.

The opening of the Melcom Art Exhibition Centre in Accra is to offer opportunities to encourage artists to create more work that could sell Ghana locally and internationally.

At the official opening of the Art Centre at the new Melcom branch at Achimota, in Accra last Wednesday, the Communications Director of Melcom Group of Companies, Mr. Godwin Avenorgbo hinted they would feature many Ghanaian artists who by the standards of the industry qualify to show their creativity on the national platform.

The shopping giant opened this exhibition centre for Ghanaian artists to showcase their admirable art works for tourists and interested persons locally.

Mr. Avenorgbo noted that the art exhibitions that used to attract large public attendance in some part of Accra and elsewhere are seriously fading.

He further said that in those days, Ghana Industry and Technology, dubbed INDUTECH organizes fairs annually at the Ghana International Trade Fair Centre to showcase Art, Sculpture, and Jewelry amongst others for the general public.

Opening the Melcom Art Exhibition, the first lady, Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo said people love art works since they have sense of humour therefore, they are expensive items.

By this, she encouraged the youth to also venture into that grey area to become self-employed.

In his remarks, the joint MD for Melcom Group of Companies, Mr. Mahesh Melwani, disclosed that his outfit is coming up with more projects in other regions so as to help   reduce the unemployment situation in the country.
