GHANA EDUCATION IN DANGER, AS STUDENTS DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE PURPOSE FOR THEIR ENROLMENT IN SCHOOL.-DR FRANK AGYEN DWOMOH* Dr Frank Agyen Dwomoh, the Director of Research and Innovation at the Koforidua Technical University has stated that the major purpose of quality education is to train the character and personality of students in such a way that will make them be able to realize their full God giving potentials and to contribute to the well being of their communities, families and nation at large, He however bemoaned the unfortunate failures in the educational structure and for that matter, the reason students of this era hardly understand why they are in school, why they are studying the different subjects and even the essence of their education as a whole. Dr Dwomoh also emphasised that the up growing state of students and youth in general in Ghana has fast changed and as a country we need no scientific surveys to tell us what our eyes and ears are revealing”. Dr Frank Agyen Dwomoh, made these submissions when he delivered his thought provoking speech as guest of honor at the 25th anniversary celebration and speech and prize giving day of the Blessed Redeemer Preparatory School at Nkawkaw Apopotia on the theme “25 years and beyond of holistic education for a wholesome future”. According to the educational research and innovation expert, students of this country in recent times have indulged themselves in violence and social media indiscipline, drug abuse, stealing, cheating, sexual immorality, rape etc. Disturbing among these Vices include disrespect for the elderly and constituted authority, lack of discipline and above all the great confusion between heroes and celebrities as role models therefore, the general perception that parents and the public feel that our youth have lost the qualities of civility, respect and responsibility. According to the guest of honor, holistic education must lead to enabling children to experience dignity, confidence to learn, development of self-esteem and ethnics and the cultivation of child creativity as well as expose them to the values enshrined in our constitution. He however admonished teachers, parents and the various communities to acknowledge their responsibility of monitoring, supervising and enforcement of discipline to help students into realising their full God giving potentials. Finally Dr Frank Agyen Dwomoh indicated that even though the recent double tracking system policy of government has raised several discussions in the free SHS program,it remains the only best option to solving the persisting challenges. In a speech read on his behalf,Hon Yaw Owusu Addo, the Municipal Chief Executive also congratulated all 25 graduants and the school on their 25th anniversary and indicated that the NPP government share the vision of the school to provide quality and affordable education to children of Ghana and thus the introduction of the flagship free SHS policy which students should work extra hard to become beneficiaries. Again he reiterated the assembly’s desire to enhance teaching and learning by commissioning an ultra modern library complex at Adoagiri on the Akuamoah Acheampong cluster of school compound and urged the students to take advantage of the facility to augment their vocabulary. Madam Gifty Ako-Nnubeng, the proprietress of the Blessed Redeemer Preparatory school gave gratitude to God and indicated that the perception of profit being the purpose of establishing school in Ghana was a falsehood but rather the love to develop children for the future. The proprietress of the school ,reiterated funding as the major challenge bewitching their growth and pleaded with parents to be concerned with the investment of fees paying and frequently visit the school to ascertain the performance of their wards. She however admonished parents to enrol their children in God fearing focused schools because when a child is educated without the fear of God,the entire nation is at risk.Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android
