Information reaching us indicates that the President of all promises H.E Nana Akufo Addo is expected to visit the Ablekuma Central constituency in the Greater Accra Region on Wednesday as part of his regional tour.

To on his visit to the constituency is the Abossey Okai spare parts market, where the he is expected to address the traders with the new promise on the block.

Ghanaiandemocrat.com has learnt that the decision to visit the place by the president is to address the traders on the high import and export duties that is killing their businesses.

The spare parts dealers, ahead of the 2016 general elections, astronomically increased the prices of their wares in most trading centres, especially Accra, Tema and Kumasi, thus making the then President, John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) unpopular and unattractive for re-election.

The practice known as “Kalabule” is the organized, premeditated and blatant price hikes by sellers for personal economic gain.

“Kalabule”, became a household name during the Ignatius Kutu Acheampong regime in the 1970s, where it manifested in the hording of essential goods such as soap, cloth, sugar, milk etc, for traders to be make unimaginable profits on their wares at the expense of consumers.

The astronomical price hikes, couple with other things, sparked an avalanche of public anger against the Mahama regime, leading to its defeat. Days after the defeat, the dealers interestingly reduced on of prices of their goods across the country, particularly Accra and Kumasi to the excitement of buyers, with buyers told that the victory of Akufo-Addo, had brought them blessings.

Two years down the line, Members of the National Concerned Spare Parts Dealers Association have expressed disappointment at President Akufo-Addo for what they called hard economic times. The association has also accused Akufo-Addo and the NPP of failing to deliver wealth and prosperity after promising to make Ghana better when he wins the election. The members also revealed that as part of efforts to aid Akufo-Addo’s to “boot” out the then-President John Mahama from power, they contributed GHS200,000 to his (Akufo-Addo’s) 2016 campaign.
